5.1 Business case
Completion requirements
Write a business case for a real AI initiative in your organization — proposed or already running.
All six sections: problem, intervention, governance, measurement, cost, and rebuttal.
State the problem before you mention AI. If the problem cannot be stated without reference to the tool, you have a solution looking for one.
The rebuttal section is required. What would show this was the wrong call? A business case with no falsification condition is advocacy.
900–1400 words · about 2–3 hours.
How you will be graded — aim for Proficient.
| 1 · Emerging | A capability description. Metrics count activity. |
| 2 · Developing | Structure present, but Level 1–2 evidence is supporting a Level 4 claim, and there is no rebuttal condition. |
| 3 · Proficient — target | The problem stated before AI is mentioned. All six sections present. Metrics that survive the free-to-fake test, with baselines. Review time included in the cost. A stated rebuttal condition — what would show this was the wrong call. |
| 4 · Exemplary | Also names a metric your organization currently reports that is nearly free to fake, and proposes the harder replacement — knowing it will look worse. |
