Welcome to Module 1: Introduction to Coaching & The GROW Model

Welcome to Coaching for Personal & Professional Growth! In this module, we'll explore the fundamental concepts of coaching and introduce you to the powerful and highly effective GROW Model—a go-to coaching framework used by professionals across the world.

🧠 First, a Quick Thought:

Have you ever been in a situation where someone asked the right question—not gave advice—but helped you think it through for yourself?
That’s coaching. And that’s the GROW Model at work.

🌱 What is Coaching?

Coaching is not about instructing or telling someone exactly what to do. Instead, it's about guiding and empowering individuals to find their own solutions, leverage their strengths, and create a clear roadmap for achieving their goals.

🔍 The GROW Model – A Snapshot

The GROW Model structures coaching into four essential questions:

Stage Key Question
G – Goal What do you want to achieve?
R – Reality Where are you currently?
O – Options What could you do to move forward?
W – Will What will you commit to doing?

💡 A Quick Scenario

Scenario: You’re mentoring a new colleague who says they feel “stuck” in their role.
Instead of offering advice, you ask:

  • “What would a great outcome look like six months from now?” (Goal)

  • “What’s happening right now that makes you feel stuck?” (Reality)

  • “What are some ways you might change this?” (Options)

  • “Which option feels most doable—and when will you start?” (Will)

That's GROW in action—and by the end of this module, you’ll know how to apply it yourself.

🎯 By the End of This Module, You'll Be Able To:

✅ Understand what coaching is and how it differs from mentoring or consulting
✅ Clearly articulate each step of the GROW Model
✅ Recognize how structured coaching can create impactful personal and professional growth
